My vagina is burning after putting a tampon in..whats going on?

I have had my period for a week and a couple days..im on birth control..i use tampons..today is suppose to be my last day..i put a tampon in and it is in where its suppose to be..but i have this burning sensation..is it that i have no liquid or no blood in the vagina..that’s causing this?
